How the Reference Collection Is Compiled

Profiles summarize linked botanical, regional and food-use sources. Published by Forageberry, they are reference compilations rather than professional identification assessments. Sources that support more than one fact are shown once with their purposes listed.

Each profile states when it was updated and whether professional review has been completed. No expert review is claimed where none has taken place. Missing habitat or seasonal evidence is marked as research incomplete; months are not assigned simply because a plant flowers or fruits in a general-range source.

Photographs and Scientific Names

Photographs retain their credited taxon and attribution. Synonyms and alternate spellings are explained. Group illustrations identify the photographed member, and an image may be withheld where its regional identity is unsuitable or unresolved.

Learn Before You Eat

Do not identify or prepare wild foods from this website alone. Learn with an experienced regional identifier and check land access, stewardship protocols and current harvesting rules. A caution label does not mean every listed plant is poisonous; it identifies a specific warning or a gap in the evidence.
