Ecosystem records
No verified terrestrial ecosystem association assigned.
B.C. food-use reference; no verified ecosystem-zone match. Ecosystem records describe broad associations, not known patches or harvesting permission.
Timing and food-use notes
Not yet verified — no B.C. harvest months assigned. Weather, elevation and local conditions can change timing.
Verify the exact species, intended part and preparation with a qualified regional identifier. Months describe planning windows only.
Comparisons & Common Confusions
Angel wings, Pleurocybella porrigens, is an important confusion on conifer wood and has been associated with severe illness. Do not transfer an oyster identification to thin white mushrooms simply because they grow in shelves.
Plan the Outing
Identify the host tree where possible. The UBC summer oyster account describes hardwood associations including alder, poplar and willow. Dead wood is also habitat: avoid dismantling it to obtain a specimen.
Handling & Kitchen Notes
Keep wood-grown finds separate until identified. Use only sound, confirmed specimens and a species-specific preparation reference. A community recipe is not an identification service.
